Saturday 23 January

is January almost over already? This month has flown by! Today is going to be up to 34 degrees, which as you know is HOTT. Going to play lawn bowls this afternoon with friends Simon and Rachel...can't believe they picked today...we are all going to cook. But I am very excited about the strange Aussie sport known as lawn bowls! On weekdays, you see armies of retired people, dressed all in white with white hats and white hair, treading about on their bare feet and throwing the ball in a smooth arc and generally being awesome and retired.

Well here are a few highlights of the month. Thanks Mom and Dad for the calendar...

Darryl's dad took us fishing! We caught a flathead and a flounder that were big enough to eat. Darryl cooked the flathead with lychees and ginger and I fried the flounder in a mustard batter. Both tasted excellent. Stand by for a photo of me filleting the flounder...it was quite an ordeal...

Check out this video of the surf on Wednesday--we were boogieboarding the day before and the waves were ALMOST as big and quite terrifying!.... Waves were INCREDIBLE, the beach was closed, there were only about five surfers out on the south end of the beach and the waves were so big that they had to enter from the cliff, because if they tried to enter from the beach they were just swimming and swimming and swimming and going backwards....you can't tell from the video but this one surfer started at the south end, by the cliffs we were standing on to take the video; this wave was so powerful--like all its sisters--that it took him almost the entire way in before he lost it, we're talking at least 500 metres in just those few seconds--oh and notice this video is at half speed! And after he finally goes down, look how long it takes him to pop back up! That's a nasty thrashing.
